Ryan Soranno is the founder and brain of RSDesign and the Atomic Encounters, and a NAVY veteran living in the setting of Menomonee Falls, WI. A home where he spends days as an industrial designer, artist, maker, photographer, engineer, mechanic, and innovator.

The early part of his younger years Ryan spent days learning and exploring many facets of creating things. The idea and action of taking set of plastic pieces, painting them, and gluing them together to make a larger complex object, or a LEGO block snapping them together; has always fascinated him. He took this mindset throughout education by learning the operation and structures of everyday things and systems. He explored the world of artwork, photography, design, engineering and making with consistent perseverance. His thirst for knowledge, design, and Engineering didn’t stop there though. For five and a half years he enlisted himself in the United States NAVY as a nuclear power plant mechanic. At that point he training on and operated one of the most advanced engineering systems out there; a nuclear reactor and nuclear power plant.

Exiting his military service he continued to formally train and explore the methods of product design and engineering on multiple 3D modeling platforms such as Solidworks, Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor, and Rhino. He enrolled myself and graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago school of architecture and design and graduated with a bachelors in Industrial Design, with a concentration on human centered design and design research. With his formal schooling and training it was only a matter of time that he immersed himself in the world of 3D printing along the way mastering both FDM and SLA printing methods.

Currently, Ryan works as an Industrial Designer for WM. K. Walthers Inc where he develops Plastic model products for the hobby railroad industry. Ryan Utilizes extensive use of design research and 3D CAD software, mainly SOLIDWORKS, to develop his products. Ryan has developed and designed more than 40 injection molded model kits and families adding to the extensive product portfolio of the Walthers product line. At his current role, Ryan strives for the best of his designs and doesn’t settle for less.

The process of product design is what gets Ryan’s mind going. Creating something out of nothing is far more than imagination. It is a combination of thought out research, conceptualization, iteration, prototyping, and story telling. Developing and making products that are high quality, meaningful, and create an impact is what he aims for.

“The act of creating a design is creating one that can be used. The act of creating a smart design is one that is useful, meaningful, and creates an impact.”
